Strategic Planning
Strategic Planning is the Town Council's process of defining its forward strategy or direction, and making decisions on allocating its resources to pursue this strategy, including its capital and people. This is a process for determining where an organisation is going over the next year or more typically 5 years (long term). In order to determine where it is going, council needs to know exactly where it stands, then determine where it wants to go and how it will get there.
In September each year, an informal meeting is held between town councillors and officers to discuss ideas and plans for the future. As a result of this informal meeting, recommendations are drawn up which are then presented to the next Full Council meeting (along with the notes from the informal meeting) for formal ratification of the recommendations. These adopted recommendations then feed directly into the setting of future budgets and the five year Forward Plan linked to the 5 year rolling budget.
