Bradley Stoke Way – Improving Sustainable Travel Options

Our programme of work, starting this spring and due to complete by the end of 2026, will make it easier and safer for people walking, cycling, wheeling, and make journeys quicker and more convenient when travelling by bus from Bradley Stoke and the surrounding area towards Aztec West and Bristol.
We recognise that these works will impact users of Bradley Stoke Way and other routes.
We are committed to minimising disruption and delays during construction, while ensuring the safety of the public and our workforce around work sites.
Key Improvements
- Separate cycle lanes and footpaths — improving safety for both pedestrians and cyclists.
- Improved bus stops — with shelters and better crossings for easier access.
- Additional priority bus lane — minimising delays for buses.

Works: Overnight closures (8pm to 6am) along the length of Bradley Stoke Way, between Savages Wood Roundabout and Baileys Court Road.
Impact: Diversion routes in place overnight. No impact on road users during daytime hours.

Works: Overnight resurfacing (8pm to 6am) of Bradley Stoke Way, between Savages Wood Roundabout and Webbs Wood Roundabout.
Impact: Full overnight road closure with no access to vehicles (road open as normal during the day). Diversion routes will be in place. Work will include weekends, with significant noise and vibrations expected.

Temporary Road Closures: Bradley Stoke Way, Baileys Court Road, Webbs Wood Road and Roundabouts
(Bradley Stoke Way, Baileys Court Road, Webbs Wood Road and Roundabouts, Bradley Stoke) (Temporary Prohibition of Use by Vehicles) Order 2025
Notice is hereby given that South Gloucestershire District Council in pursuance of the provisions of section 14 of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984 as amended intends to make an order the effect of which will be to close, temporarily, to vehicles the lengths of road specified in the Schedule to this notice.
This order is required for the following reason: in connection with CRSTS Active Travel Scheme works. The order will be operative from 20 October 2025 for a maximum period of eighteen months. The closure however may not be implemented for the whole of the period but only when traffic signs are in position and only for so long as is necessitated by the works which are anticipated to be of 2 months duration, between the hours of 8pm and 6am. Access will be maintained throughout, and it is anticipated that the whole length should not be closed at any one time, but in stages.

Notice is hereby given that South Gloucestershire District Council in pursuance of the provisions of section 14 of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984 as amended intends to make an order the effect of which will be to close, temporarily, to vehicles and foot passengers that length of Bradley Stoke Way northbound carriageway bus lane which extends from a point 165 metres north of its junction with Savages Wood Roundabout in a northerly direction for a distance of 30 metres.
This order is required for the following reason: in connection with the likelihood of danger to the public consequent upon trial hole works on or adjacent to the highway. The order will be operative from 25 September 2025 for a maximum period of eighteen months. The closure however may not be implemented for the whole of the period but only when traffic signs are in position and only for so long as is necessitated by the works which are anticipated to be of a 1 day duration, between the hours of 8am and 6pm.

Upcoming changes to Bradley Stoke Way closures
Work is progressing well in Bradley Stoke, and we are preparing to reopen Bradley Stoke Way, between Webbs Wood Roundabout and Baileys Court Roundabout, on July 20.
From July 20, we will move to the next phase of work on Bradley Stoke Way (northbound), as outlined below.
Closure details:
- Dates: Sunday 20 July to end of December
- Location: One-way closure of Bradley Stoke Way between Webbs Wood Roundabout and Savages Wood Roundabout
- Driving restrictions: Full closure of northbound lane (towards Savages Wood Roundabout); southbound lane (towards Webbs Wood Road) open as normal
- Changes to bus services: Bus stops on Webbs Wood Road, The Bridge and Savages Wood Roundabout will be closed. Bus stops will still be available at Great Meadow and Willow Brook. The T1 bus service will stop at Braydon Avenue. Check First Bus for updates.
- Other restrictions: Full closure of pedestrian footpath and cycleway between Webbs Wood Roundabout and Savages Wood Roundabout until December 2025
- Diversion information: Diversion routes will be in place for road users, pedestrians, cyclists and other path users: more information.
In addition, the following closure is currently in place:
Until Friday 25 July: Overnight closures (8pm-6am) in both directions for removal of safety barriers, surfacing of footways, road resurfacing and to paint new road markings.
Upcoming closures:
Sat 19 July-Weds 23 July: Overnight closure of Bradley Stoke Way (8pm-6am, both directions) between Webbs Wood Roundabout and Savages Wood Roundabout. This is to change the current one-way system.
Tuesday 22 July: Single day closure (8am-6pm) of Concorde Way, alongside Stoke Brook, for surveying of the parapets on Bradley Stoke Way. To minimise disruption for the community, this work will take place on school inset days when fewer children and families will be using the pathway.

Road Closures on Bradley Stoke Way
Important information about the current and next phase of work along Bradley Stoke Way.
Baileys Court – Webbs Wood roundabout northbound closure (current phase) – these works have progressed in accordance with programme and this one-way closure will be removed on Sunday 20 July.
- From Friday 11 July to Friday 25 July, there will be overnight closures in both directions on this section of road (8pm-6am). This will allow us to remove the temporary safety barrier, surface the new footways, resurface the road and paint new road markings.
- During the overnight closures, a diversion route will be in place via B4057, A38 Gloucester Road, Bradley Stoke Way and vice versa.
Webbs Wood roundabout – Savages Wood roundabout (future phase) – Sunday 20 July, a new one-way closure will be in place between Webbs Wood Roundabout and Savages Wood Roundabout. This closure will remain in place until the end of December 2025.
- The northbound lane (towards Savages Wood Roundabout) will be closed to vehicles. The pedestrian footpath and cycleway shall also be closed.
- The southbound lane (towards Webbs Wood Roundabout) will be open as normal.
- To install the new one-way system, we will need to close Bradley Stoke Way overnight (8pm- 6am) in both directions between Webbs Wood Roundabout and Savages Wood Roundabout. Work will take place over four nights, starting Saturday 19 July.
- This overnight closure will coincide with the above-mentioned overnight closure between Baileys Court Road and Webbs Wood Road (from July 11-25).
- Diversion routes for drivers, bus users and pedestrians are shown in attached maps and on our project website plus included in the mailing letter which is attached.
- National Highways Trench Lane works – we are aware that there will also be a closure of Trench Lane for a period which is required for National Highways to undertake required maintenance of their structure. There will be an update about this on the project website shortly.
- National Highways is undertaking essential maintenance works to the M4 overbridge at Trench Lane. This is to replace the bridge’s expansion joints and for drainage improvements. To carry out this work, they will be closing Trench Lane Bridge, immediately after the Trench Lane car boot site to the roundabout with Woodlands Road. The closure will be in place 24/7 in both directions, between July 21 and October 10.
Concorde Way adjacent to Stoke Brook bridge – path closure Tuesday 22nd July – it has been confirmed that we will require a closure of the Concorde Way for a period during Tuesday 22nd July to enable a survey to take place on Stoke Brook bridge. This is to enable the future replacement of the bridge parapets and the footpath closure enables a safe working space. Updates on this will be provided in due course. This work was scheduled to take place during the Northbound closure phase between Webbs Wood roundabout and Savages Wood roundabout along with the footpath closure.
Baileys Court & Webbs Wood Roundabouts – these are ongoing and will be until completion in December 2025.Anticipated that there will be progression and changes to the current Traffic Management and roundabout arm closures in late August.

Upcoming overnight road closures 17th May - 8th June
Overnight road closures between Saturday 17th May – Sunday 8th June – Great Stoke Roundabout – Baileys Court Roundabout
Bradley Stoke Way will be closed in both directions for resurfacing works between Great Stoke Roundabout and Baileys Court Roundabout from Saturday 17 May 2025, to Sunday 8 June 2025, between the hours of 20:00 to 06:00 each night. This activity will involve re-surfacing the existing carriageway, cycleways and the new footways.
The works will involve activities that generate noise and vibration, and we apologise in advance for this disturbance and inconvenience. We recognise the impact of overnight works on residents and will ensure that any noise is kept as low as possible.
There will be a diversion route in place via B4057, A38 and Bradley Stoke Way and vice versa. Access will still be available to residents of The Worthys. However, there may be some delays at times.
Northbound closure change – following the progress of the resurfacing the project will move to the next Northbound closure between Baileys Court Roundabout and Webbs Wood Roundabout where construction will start on Monday 2nd June and anticipated to last 7 weeks.
- Overnight on Saturday 31 May 2025 the current one-way system BSW between Great Stoke Roundabout and Baileys Court Roundabout shall be removed. The current nighttime road closures along this section as aforementioned above will continue.
- On Saturday 31 May 2025 the one-way system will then move to the next section between Baileys Court Roundabout and Webbs Wood Roundabout.
- These works will take place under a road closure between 20:00 and 06:00 over the course of three nights (Saturday, Sunday and Monday).

Upcoming traffic management changes & diversions
Bradley Stoke Way transport scheme - upcoming road closure 16-19th April and traffic management changes 20th April and diversions.
Overnight road closure – 16th – 18th April, Baileys Court Roundabout – The Worthys
Bradley Stoke Way will be closed southbound between Baileys Court Roundabout and The Worthys on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday this week between 20:00 to 06:00. This is to allow works to take place safely near the centre of the remaining carriageway. We will do our best to minimise the disruption however there will also be some noise disturbance whilst these works take place. The diversion route will be via Bradley Stoke Way, A38 and B4057. We apologise for any inconvenience these works may cause.
Changes to existing Webbs Wood & Baileys Court Roundabouts – 20th April onwards
- Road closures up to Sunday 20th April - Currently the southbound exit from the roundabout onto Webbs Wood Road and the northbound exit from the roundabout onto Baileys Court Road are closed to drivers. These closures will remain unchanged and in place until 20:00 on Sunday 20 April.
- Overnight road closures on Sunday 20th April – There will be a full closure of Webbs Wood Road (south side of roundabout only) and Baileys Court Road (north side of roundabout only) between 20:00 on Sunday 20 April and 06:00 on Monday 21 April to allow temporary road markings and barriers to be repositioned to enable the above changes. We recognise the impact of overnight works on residents and will ensure that any noise is kept as low as possible. We apologise in advance for any disturbance.
- Road closures from Monday 21st April - Effective from 06:00 on Monday 21 April, the current road closures will be reversed, as outlined below:
- Webbs Wood Roundabout
- The exit from the roundabout onto Webbs Wood Road will reopen, however entry onto Webbs Wood Roundabout from Webbs Wood Road will be closed.
- A diversion route via Webbs Wood Road, Baileys Court Road, Savages Wood Road and Bradley Stoke Way will be in operation. Please see the diversion map attached for details.
- This road closure is expected to be in place for six weeks.
- Baileys Court Roundabout
- The exit from the roundabout onto Baileys Court Road will reopen, however entry onto Baileys Court Roundabout from Baileys Court Road will be closed.
- A diversion route via Baileys Court Road, Webbs Wood Road and Bradley Stoke Way will be in operation. Please see the attached map for details. This road closure is expected to be in place for six weeks.
- Webbs Wood Roundabout
- Public transport – there will be no changes to the existing diversion route in place for public transport.

Upcoming traffic management changes & diversions
Overnight full closures Baileys Court Roundabout (Great Meadow Roundabout) – The Worthys
As part of improvements to Bradley Stoke Way, the road will be closed in both directions between The Worthys and Baileys Court Roundabout on Saturday 1 March and Wednesday 5 March. Closures will be in place from 8pm to 6am.
This is required to enable our Operations teams to make amendments to the road layout and enable continuation of construction works.
Baileys Court & Webbs Wood closures & diversions – Monday 10th March, six week duration
There are two road closures that are scheduled to start on Monday 10 March as part of the Bradley Stoke Way traffic improvements.
The closures will be in place to allow us to construct new kerb lines and pedestrian/cycle facilities around Webbs Wood Roundabout and Baileys Court Roundabout. To enable us to carry out this work safely, there will be traffic restrictions and diversion routes in place, as outlined below.
These will be the first of several series of road closures and diversions in relation to the phases for these two roundabouts which we anticipate will be completed in Winter 2025.
Webbs Wood Roundabout
- From Monday 10 March the exit from the roundabout onto Webbs Wood Road (southbound only) will be closed. We anticipate this closure being in place for a period of six weeks.
- Entry from Webbs Wood Road onto the Webbs Wood Roundabout will remain unaffected.
- A diversion route via Bradley Stoke Way, Savages Wood Road, Baileys Court Road and Webbs Wood Road will be in operation. Please see the diversion map below for details.
- There will be a full closure of Webbs Wood Road (south side of roundabout only) between 8pm to 6am on Saturday 8 and Sunday 9 March to allow temporary road markings and barriers to be installed to support the aforementioned temporary measures.
Baileys Court Roundabout
- From Monday 10 March the exit from the roundabout onto Baileys Court Road (northbound only) will be closed. We anticipate this closure being in place for a period of six weeks.

Due to roadworks as part of the council active travel scheme, Bradley Stoke Way northbound will be closed to traffic and as such services m1 towards Cribbs Causeway and T1 towards Thornbury will be diverted to use Winterbourne Road, Orpheus Avenue and Baileys Court Road to resume normal route at Great Meadow Roundabout. Please expect some delays.

Temporary Road Closure: Bradley Stoke Way
Notice is hereby given that South Gloucestershire District Council in pursuance of the provisions of section 14 of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984 as amended intends to make an order the effect of which will be to close, temporarily, to vehicles, foot passengers, pedal cycles and equestrians the lengths of road specified in the Schedule to this notice.
This order is required for the following reason: in connection with the likelihood of danger to the public consequent upon active travel scheme construction works on or adjacent to the highway. The order will be operative from 10 March 2025 for a maximum period of eighteen months. The closure however may not be implemented for the whole of the period but only when traffic signs are in position and only for so long as is necessitated by the works which are anticipated to be of 9 months duration. The closures are to be carried out in phases. Each phase will not be implemented before the one before it has been completed.

Phase 1 - that length which extends from its junction with Great Stoke Way roundabout to its junction with Great Meadow roundabout
Phase 2 - that length which extends from its junction with Great Meadow roundabout to its junction with Webbs Wood roundabout
Phase 3 - that length which extends from its junction with Webbs Wood roundabout to its junction with Savages Wood roundabout

Notice is hereby given that the South Gloucestershire Council in pursuance of the provisions contained within the above Act will for a period of up to 21 Days commencing on 17th February 2025.
prohibit any Vehicle, Pedestrian, Cyclist and Equestrian proceeding along:
Bradley Stoke Way, Bradley Stoke (northbound only) – Between Great Stoke Way roundabout and Great Meadow roundabout
The above restriction is necessary because active travel scheme construction works are being carried out on or near the carriageway consequent upon which is the need to avoid danger to road users, and the operatives engaged upon the works and serious damage to the road.

The alternative route for vehicles is via: Bradley Stoke Way (part unaffected), A38, B4057, Bradley Stoke Way (part unaffected)

The improvements will make it easier and safer for people walking, cycling, wheeling, and make journeys quicker and more convenient when travelling by bus from Bradley Stoke and the surrounding area towards Aztec West and Bristol.
The work on Bradley Stoke Way starts in mid-February and is due to complete by the end of 2026.
