Is Ben the fastest Councillor in the West?

BSTC - 12th June 2009

Normally when councillors announce their intention to run it means they are standing in an upcoming election. Not so however for one Bradley Stoke Town Councillor who will literally be running in the Bradley Stoke 10k Fun Run on Sunday.

Cllr Ben Walker who represents the Town's Lakeside ward and is currently Vice-Chairman of the Council, is running in aid of the Mayor's Charities (The Bristol Dyslexia Centre and British Limbless Ex-Servicemen Association) and will join over 300 other runners as they line up at the Jubilee Centre for the race at 10am on Sunday.

Cllr Walker comments

"I entered last year but it was very hot and I hope to improve on my time in slightly cooler conditions"

adding

"The Mayor's Charities this year are very worthy causes and I'm delighted to do my bit to raise funds."

The race itself which is organised by Sole Sisters (the all women running club based in Bradley Stoke) is now an annual event forming part of the Bradley Stoke Festival which starts today with a coffee morning and pre-school picnic in the park at the Jubilee Centre. Other events taking place across the three days include a programme of music and dance and the McDonalds' football fun day tomorrow and an outdoor church service and cricket tournament on Sunday.
