RHS Britain in Bloom is one of Europe's largest horticultural campaigns. More than 1,100 cities, towns and villages participate each year to show off their achievements in environmental responsibility, community participation and horticultural achievement. The RHS Britain in Bloom campaign is a year-round initiative, which sees communities the length and breadth of the UK working to improve their local environments. Communities of all sizes take part, from small villages to large cities. Some groups are entirely voluntarily run and some work in partnership with their local council. For further information about the campaign, please visit the RHS Britain in Bloom website.

Bradley Stoke Town Council initially held a series of meetings with the aim of involving local groups, organisations, residents and businesses in creating a Britain in Bloom entry for the town Following the successful meetings which were well attended by an enthusiastic group of residents and representatives from local organisations and groups, a Steering Group was formed.

The Steering Group has now taken over the running of the project.

Bradley Stoke in Bloom 2022 Best Front Garden Competition

The Bradley Stoke in Bloom Best Front Garden competition has been running for 10 years, we started back in 2013 with just 5 gardens & our first winner was Maureen Hopkins. We now have 2 main categories large and small gardens as we felt it seemed a little fairer & now we have 2 annual shields for our winners to polish as well as glass trophies for them to keep. We've added a Facebook favourite so that the public can vote for their favourites too & we now also have a Greenest Garden category so there are plenty of opportunities to take something home.

Our competition is well supported, each year Almondsbury Garden Centre donates vouchers, both the Aztec Hotel & Spa & The Hollow Tree pub each donate 2 prizes & the 'Greenest Garden' trophy & voucher are donated by Bradley Stoke Zero Carbon group & this year were awarded by Mayur Desai.

Last year we had 24 entries but my feet are pleased to say this year we had just 15 with 3 of those being newcomers. The extreme weather caused many to drop out but also 'have moved / moving' 'just had a baby' 'been abroad for 6 weeks' 'will be on honeymoon' also seemed like reasonable reasons to give it a miss this year!

It's Your Neighbourhood

The Royal Horticultural Society's It's Your Neighbourhood campaign is part of the wider Britain in Bloom initiative, providing an opportunity for smaller community groups to get involved.

RHS It's Your Neighbourhood is a unique scheme for volunteered led community gardening projects/groups who are focused on improving their local environment through community gardening. They can be working in their local street, estate where they live, a back alley they share with their neighbours, or the local community centre's outdoor space. Almost any outdoor site being looked after by the local community qualifies for this scheme. RHS It's Your Neighbourhood is an inclusive, non-competitive scheme, a group can be made up of any number of community volunteers.

Certificate: It's Your Neighbourhood Award 2019 Level 5 Outstanding

In 2019, Bradley Stoke in Bloom were very pleased to announce they had been awarded a Level 5 Outstanding Award in the It's Your Neighbourhood category
