Free firework display a tremendous success as record crowd raises thousands for charity!

BSTC - 10th November 2009

Bradley Stoke Town Council's 7th annual firework display exceeded all expectations and has been hailed a tremendous success by both organisers and residents after record crowds braved the cold to watch the display at the Jubilee Centre last night, raising thousands of pounds for charity in the process.

Official estimates put the attendance between five and six thousand and organisers confirmed this as a new record for the event. The 6pm start was delayed by approximately fifteen minutes while the volunteer marshals ensured everyone was safely accommodated on site.

Cllr Mark Forsyth, Town Mayor, whose chosen charities benefit from the public donations said "We're really pleased with the turnout, and the public have been most generous, I know that BLESMA and the Bristol Dyslexia Centre will be most grateful."

No formal admission was charged for the event but entry point collections raised £4,250.80 (over twice the amount raised last year) every penny of which goes to charity as the display costs are covered by the council.

The display itself, by professional display firm Kimbolton fireworks, lasted 18 minutes and was well received by the assembled crowd. Local resident, Jade Liu of Honeysuckle close said: "I really enjoyed the fireworks, I especially like the one which shot straight from the ground in a big golden fan shape. There was also a good atmosphere I am looking forward to going next year."
