BSTC - 5th April 2022

Bradley Stoke Town Council is sad to inform that our two Council vehicles were destroyed at the Bradley Stoke Jubilee Centre Car Park on Sunday, 3rd April 2022 at 2.20am hours, due to unprovoked arson attack by two individuals.

The fire and rescue teams were called immediately by the neighbours. The fire services quickly attended the site and swiftly extinguished the fire and minimised the damage to the surrounding area. However, the two vehicles were burnt and will likely have to be scrapped.

The Town Council is working closely with Avon & Somerset Constabulary and have provided them with CCTV footage of the whole incident. The Police have also carried out door-to-door enquiries to see if local houses have any images etc. on their CCTV cameras, dashcam etc.

Over 20 other vehicles were deliberately set on fire in North Bristol area during the early hours on Sunday. Residents near the Rolls Royce site in Stoke Gifford reported that they were awoken by the sound of loud bangs and the sight of a huge fire. Avon and Somerset Police first received a call at approximately 1.30 am about a vehicle on fire in New Road, Stoke Gifford. It is absolutely horrific for all the communities and organisations affected by this incident.

The Mayor of Bradley Stoke, Councillor Tom Aditya has requested the Avon and Somerset Police and Crime Commissioner Mark Shelford and the Police Chief Constable, Sarah Crew, to deploy a specially dedicated police team to identify the culprits and to bring the offenders under the rule of law, and to put up corrective measures in place so that this sort of incident won’t be repeated. This sort of arson attack is unheard of in Bradley Stoke. It is appalling and shocking. The Council has the duty of care to make sure that the taxpayer's money is prudently taken care of and always strives to do the best for the residents of the town. It is a shame that some wrong-minded individuals are damaging our community assets and instigating mayhem in this area. We, as a community, will fight together against such anti-social behaviour. Bradley Stoke has the lowest crime rate in South Gloucestershire and is one of the safest places to live. We will put all efforts to keep Bradley Stoke as a safer and stronger community neighbourhood. On Sunday, in the aftermath of the attack, it was business as usual at the Jubilee Centre with netball tournaments and other games taking place, demonstrating that, Bradly Stoke is a good place to live and visit.

Thanks to all colleagues, councillors, residents and staff for all their support on Sunday, which we appreciate very much. Hopefully, the perpetrators are caught quickly and dealt with appropriately.
