Mayor's Last Duty is to Present Record Breaking Cheque
BSTC - 18th May 2009
Bradley Stoke Town Mayor, Cllr Robert Jones, will leave office on Wednesday night at the Town Council’s AGM but not before he completes one last duty in office. Cllr Jones’ last task before stepping aside will be to present a cheque to his chosen Mayoral Charity: The National Association for Colitis and Crohn’s Disease (NACC).
The total amount (which will be revealed on the night) is expected to exceed that raised by the previous Mayor Cllr Julian Barge. It will therefore, set a new record for the Council that each year raises funds for the Mayor’s charity by collecting donations at various events, including the Bradley Stoke Festival in June and the Annual Fireworks display in November.
Cllr Robert Jones comments: “I’m delighted with the total raised and very grateful to everyone who has donated. My thanks also to the volunteers from NACC who have helped out with the collections and supported Council’s events in the past year.”
Cllr Jones, who is himself a Crohn’s Disease sufferer, will hand over the cheque to NACC Avon Group Chair, Georgie Bigg. Commenting on the events of the past year Mrs Bigg says: “It’s been a fantastic opportunity for our group of volunteers to get involved in local activities and helps fund raise. It’s good to know so many people will benefit”.
