Notice of Temporary Road Closure: Trench Lane, Bradley Stoke

South Gloucestershire Council - 30th September 2020

Notice is hereby given that South Gloucestershire District Council in pursuance of the provisions of section 14 of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984 as amended intends to make an order the effect of which will be to close, temporarily, to vehicles, foot passengers, pedal cycles and equestrians that length of Trench Lane which extends from its junction with Bowlsand Way/Woodlands Lane roundabout in an easterly direction for a distance of 250 metres.

This order is required in connection with the likelihood of danger to the public consequent upon bridge refurbishment works and will be operative from the 24 July 2020 for a maximum period of eighteen months. The closure however may not be implemented for the whole of the period but only when traffic signs are in position and only for so long as is necessitated by the works which are anticipated to be of 6 weeks duration.

Alternative route: Old Gloucester Road, B4057, Bradley Stoke Way, Gloucester Road, Church Road and vice versa

Update 30th September 2020

M4 Trench Lane overbridge

Highways England operates, maintains and improves England’s motorways and major A roads.

Due to unforeseen circumstances our programme has been extended.

Further bridge deck surveys and design work have been necessary to ensure the integrity of the structure. The bridge remained closed whilst these additional works were taking place and this means our completion date has been delayed. Thank you for your continued patience whilst these works remain ongoing.

Traffic management

We will need to close a section of the M4 beneath Trench Lane bridge deck to carry out works. This means we will now work overnight from 8pm to 6am when traffic flows are at their lowest. We will revert to daytime and weekend working to try and make up some lost time when M4 closures are no longer needed.

Revised end date

22 October 2020 – if we can open Trench Lane bridge deck to traffic earlier while we complete some of the works we will do so.

Please be assured we’re making every effort to ensure the impact on the local community and travelling public is kept to a minimum.
