Wildflower Management
When: Saturday 4th July 2009 - 10am
Where: Meet at the lake
Maintenance of the wildflower-rich site by Webb's Wood. Varied activities will include haycutting, remove saplings and doing some deliberate ground disturbance.
We have various tasks planned, including:
- removal of encroaching trees/shrubs/bramble
- deliberate disturbance of some of the ground, to encourage the growth of some of our arable wildflowers
- scything the grass and removing it to ensure the ground stays nutrient-poor
Meet at the lake at 10 am
The weather on the BBC forecast looks rather changeable. If it is a very hot day then please make sure you bring a sunhat, suncream, suitable clothing (remember long sleeves may give you better protection; long trousers are advisable anyway for working in long grass) and plenty of water to drink. Or if it's tipping it down remember waterproofs. It may do both! Plus usual sensible shoes (NO sandals please, the scythe blades are very sharp and we want everyone to go home with the same toes they came with) and packed lunch.
