BSTC - 11th June 2009

Bradley Stoke Town Council is pleased to confirm the line up for the main stage at this year's Community Festival on Saturday 13 June. Starting at 1.30pm with an acoustic set from Alfie Kingston the packed afternoon programme features Music and Dance acts from around the globe.

Town Mayor Cllr Mark Forsyth comments: “From Pop and Rock to Samba and Jazz, and from Ballet to Belly, there is music and dance to cater for all tastes at this year’s festival.”

As well as events on the main stage visitors to the festival can enjoy a wide variety of stalls and activities including the ever popular climbing wall and the McDonalds football fun day with special guest Sir Geoff Hurst.

Cllr Forsyth says: “There really is something for everyone at the festival this year, its bound to be a great day out for young and old alike.”

Entrance to the festival is free and all donations go to the Mayor’s chosen charities the Bristol Dyslexia Centre and British Limbless Ex-Servicemen Association.

The honour of closing Day 2 of the festival goes to party and dance band Uncle Buck who are due on stage at the later closing time of 7.20pm.

Saturday 13th June

The programme involves a range of local bands interspersed with dance and art performances from local clubs:

  • 12.30: Bristol born Alfie Kingston opens the Festival with an acoustic set playing numbers from his album “Creatures & People's Ways”.
  • 13.10: A Tale of 3 Journeys told by Mark Richards
  • 13.25: Official welcome by the Mayor of Bradley Stoke, Cllr Mark Forsyth
  • 13.30: Local carnival band Iluaxe will play traditional Brazilian music, along with their Capoeiro Dancers.
  • 14.15: Annette's Dance Academy will provide a demonstration of their dance skills - the academy provides classes in Ballet to Jazz.
  • 14.40: The exciting Hèlèlè afro jazz band is led by Alphonse Daudet Touna who plays the balafon through a mix of rhythms from Assiko to Bolobo. Alphonse will also be running a series of drum workshops throughout the Festival.
  • 15.20: Ballet Bristol provides a series of different Ballet performances.
    Sian the leader of the group will also provide a series of Ballet workshops for the children in the Jubilee Centre.
  • 15.45: A trip back in time with the Echoes a fantastic 60's band providing memorable covers including Beatles and Stones classics.
  • 16.40: The award winning Fahrenheit Dancers will be performing Street Dancing and a number of the teams on display will be going on to National championships around the UK.
  • 17.05: The superb party band Tundra will play a wide range of music from Elton John to the Kaiser Chiefs.
  • 17.55: Anna Chandler's Egyptian Dancers provide the next dance session with Belly Dancing and Arabic dance.
  • 18.20: Talented local band Area 51, winners of the local Battle of the Bands provide a Nirvana, grunge, style of music.
  • 19.20: The charismatic party and dance band Uncle Buck complete the music session.

Within the Children' zone on Jubilee Green will be a series of performances by the Academy of Historical Swordsman starting at 13.30, with Taekwon-do at 14.45 and the Bollywood Dancers at 15.30. The Local Schools football tournament for U7s, sponsored by McDonalds, is being staged on the top football pitch and there will be a series of inflatable and football games area available for all children to enjoy. Meet '66 World Cup Star Sir Geoff Hurst later on in the afternoon.

Sunday 14th June

6-a-side Cricket Tournament at Bradley Stoke Cricket Club, Bailey's Court Road.
Various local teams will be taking part in the tournament which will run from 13.00 - 17.00 with the club providing a BBQ and open bar throughout the afternoon and fun entertainment into the evening.

Other events include;

  • Open air Church service at 11.00
  • Family picnic from 12.00
  • Children's zone with penalty shoot out, bouncy castle and other entertainments
  • Food and craft stalls
  • Bristol & Kingswood Brass band playing throughout the afternoon
  • BBQ
  • Open bar
  • Pool & Darts competition
  • Karaoke competition in the clubhouse
  • Awards & prize ceremony.
