And Yet Another Sunshine Filled Community Festival

Bradley Stoke Community Festival 2009

The seventh Bradley Stoke Community Festival weekend finished in the sunshine, as it began with many local residents enjoying all the activities and fun on offer.

The events began on Friday with a Pre-School Picnic on the Jubilee Green arranged by South Glos Council's Children & Young People's Information Service and BSTC. Several hundred children and their parents enjoyed brilliant sunshine and soaring temperatures together with a chance to practice circus skills courtesy of Professor Panic and his traveling circus and have their faces painted by Louisa. This year we managed to get Mr Brown's Pig and Steve Price - the Bubble Man for added entertainment. Two schools brought children to visit Prof Panic and a great time was had by everyone. The monthly Coffee Morning moved to the Jubilee Centre for the day and were kept busy providing drinks.

On Saturday many local groups had stalls to raise funds for their own particular causes and wee supported by local businesses and information stands... The newly elected Mayor of Bradley Stoke, Mark Forsyth toured all the events on offer, having his photograph taken in the stocks. As well as the stalls there was a varied programme of stage and dance arena events, with great fun being had on the Quad bikes and bouncy castles. Sir Geoff Hurst, visiting the Youth Football Tournament on behalf of the FA was a tremendous draw and made the football day very special.

The combined churches of the town and neighbouring areas celebrated morning service on Sunday, followed by a family picnic accompanied by the Bristol East Brass Band. Then a cricket tournament took lace, which was won by Paul Peterson's team from Holy Trinity. The Mayor's Maidens particularly enjoyed themselves.

The dates for next year's Community Festival are the 11th, 12th and 13th June 2010.
