A large number of parents with their young children attended this event, on the opening day of the three day festival, taking refreshments, and also visiting a range of stalls and entertainments.
Local trades and crafts provided the stalls, which ranged from cakes and pastries, to jewellery and novelties, alongside information stalls.
The entertainment was provided by Prof Panic with his Big Top entertainment of juggling, circus skills and magic for the younger children. On the Thursday, Prof Panic entertained pupils from the local primary schools.
Steve Price, the Balloon Man, also provided his individual fun entertainment producing modelled balloons and displays.
The second day of the Festival is the main event. 70 stalls attended ranging from local community projects and charity groups, to craft and novelty stalls, tombolas, coconut shies and fun games, to jewellery, car and local hotel displays.
There were also a number of catering and ice cream units attending, with the traditional burger and hot dogs, but also Indian food and pizzas. On-site entertainments ranged from a climbing wall and road train, which transported people around the Festival site along with local operations providing inflatables, quad bikes, carousel and tea cup rides and the attendance of the popular Police Van.
Professor Panic continued his performances for the younger children, and a chainsaw wood carver demonstrated his skills by carving the second of three benches whilst people watched. The superb benches will be used to enhance the seating for local residents, viewing the pond at Jubilee Green and the local wildlife area.
The main entertainment were the 5 bands who played in front of what was estimated at a crowd of 1,500 - 2,000 people at one time, with a further 1,500 people on the Jubilee Green side. The bands were headed up by Abba Now a tribute band who were enjoyed along with local bands; The Echoes, PantZ, Uncle Buck and Smokestack Shakers.
Dance performances were provided by Annette's Dance Academy, Fahrenheit Dancers, Bollywood Dancers, Ballet Bristol, Arabian Nights Belly Dancers and Colourguard Dance and the superb King Edmund's School Acro-gymnastic group.
On the Jubilee Green side there were demonstrations by the Bradley Stoke Community School Samba band, the Chinese Singers and Bowlands Green Gym Club. The newly completed play area was also well used and Friends of Jubilee Green were on hand supervising the children in the play area.
Other entertainment for the youth was provided by Kingswood Bus project who invite the youth of the area to make their own music, try different inflatable rides and also provide an opportunity for local singers to perform.
On the football pitch side a football tournament took place with over 200 children taking part and ex-professional Matt le Tissier attending as McDonalds Football Ambassador, signing autographs and talking to the children.
A balloon race was set off by the Mayor, Councillor Ben Walker, with over 300 balloons having been sold by the Aztec West Hotel, who also sponsored the water bottles of the children taking part in the football tournament.
A 10k run started from Jubilee Green on the Sunday organised by local charity group, Sole Sisters with over 450 runners taking part.
Bradley Stoke Youth Club organised a competition which took place at the local Skate Park.
At Bailey's Court a morning service was held with over 100 adults and children attending, followed by a Teddy Bears Picnic.
This was followed in the afternoon, by a 6-a-side cricket tournament and barbeque provided by Bradley Stoke Cricket Club featuring 6 teams this year, including the Mayor's Maidens, who unfortunately didn't get through to the final, but demonstrated skills in the true tradition of “it's the taking part that counts”.
The final was between Re-energized and Bradley Indians, but had to be rearranged as steady rain caused an end to proceedings!
