Book Launch AND Workday (Marshland Irrigation)

Book Launch AND Workday (Marshland Irrigation)

When: Saturday 5th September 2009 - 10am

Where: Meet at the reserve entrance

Improving irrigation in the marsh by digging further channels and a drainage sump. Getting muddy is guaranteed. Meet at the reserve entrance off Brook Way (near the Braydon Avenue roundabout) at 10am.

Those of you who were at our last AGM will remember we had a very interesting talk from Martin Davis whose father used to farm the land which is now Bradley Stoke. Martin has written a book about his father, “The Farmer and the Goose with the Golden Eyes” – go to http://www.redcliffepress.co.uk/new.html and scroll down for more information.

The book is about Howard Davis and his relationship with Sir Peter Scott, leading to the foundation of Slimbridge. Martin is very generously offering a proportion of the book sale proceeds to our conservation group. The book is now published and will be “launched” at an event at the leisure centre on Saturday 5 September starting at 2 for 2.30 pm. He has invited us all, but the sharper ones amongst you will note that this is unfortunately our workday (meet at Braydon Avenue gate, 10 am) and come 2.30 pm we will all be in the marsh and very muddy indeed.

HOWEVER:

Our own Dave B has agreed to attend the launch and have a stand to promote the group. If anyone is not intending to come to the workday (why not?) but would like to help Dave out between 2 and 5 pm, please let me know.

The room for the launch is booked until 5 so there is a possibility that we can all poke our muddy noses in, and it would probably be decent to do so, when we have put the tools away.

If you would like a copy of the book, Martin is offering 3BNCG members the price of £10.00 per copy on launch day – after that it will be available to buy from the library but at £12.95. If you would like to buy a copy on the day, please could you let me know in the next couple of weeks and Martin will then make sure he reserves them for you to pick up. Or if you can’t make it at all, be very nice to Dave and he might pick it up for you, as long as you give him the money!
