The Patchway and Bradley Stoke Community Development Project have welcomed funding from the Young Roots Heritage Lottery Fund which is allowing them to run the new 'Pride In Our Past' cultural heritage project. The Patchway and Bradley Stoke Community Development Project have over four years experience of managing meaningful projects involving young people in the community.
'Pride in Our Past' will work with young people aged 13 – 19 and will run from May until the end of August. 'Pride in Our Past' will organise a series of cultural heritage workshops that will allow participants from different ethnic backgrounds to work together and explore a variety of local cultures. These will include traditional English, Asian, Chinese and African cultures.
The workshops will be taking place at a number of venues in the lead time up to the Bradley Stoke Festival on 11th June 05 and Patchway Festival 9th July 05 where the young people will be showcasing what they have learned in the workshops.
“As well as allowing young people to actively participate in the Patchway and Bradley Stoke Festivals, it the hoped that the project will assist in raising cultural awareness and by doing so assist with community cohesion”. Ruth Ramsay project Coordinator.
'Pride In Our Past' will be working in partnership with South Gloucester shire Youth Service, Bradley Stoke Youth Development Project, South Gloucestershire Community Development, South Gloucestershire Arts Development Officer, Patchway & Bradley Stoke Town Councils, Patchway & Bradley Stoke Festival Committee, Patchway Local History Group, Patchway Conservation Group, South Gloucestershire Asian Project, South
Gloucestershire Chinese Association.
