Lesley - 2nd March 2007
Entrepreneurs in Bradley Stoke have joined together to set up a unique networking group to promote their businesses in and around the local community.
The Bradley Stoke small business forum - although the group has yet to be formally named - met for the first time on the 19 February at the Pitman Training Centre in Pear Tree Road.
Individuals from a total of 11 different businesses attended. Among them were an accountancy expert, marketing and media professionals, a plumber, a painter and decorator, and a professional counsellor, a courier company and a legal expert, as well as a business training centre manager and representatives from a community magazine.
Apart from acting as a voice for the small business community in Bradley Stoke, members of the new business forum aim to meet regularly to discuss common problems and solutions to day to day issues that affect all those running their own enterprises, from those working at home alone, to small and larger firms.
Already the group has agreed on a broad mission statement to outline its aims to the wider community:
.To help create prosperity for its members by providing business and networking opportunities both locally and nationally. In this way we hope to raise awareness of the advantages of Bradley Stoke as a place to work and reside, and to improve the economic structure of the town.
Future plans were discussed at the set-up meeting including the development of a group website, and guest speakers could be invited in future to talk about business-related issues.
New members are welcome - its free so far - and the next meeting is scheduled for Monday 19 March at the Pitman Training Centre in Pear Tree Road starting at 6.30pm.
