Bradley Stoke Fireworks evoke memories of an Olympic Summer

BSTC - 12th November 2012

A cold and damp November night might not be an obvious reminder of this summer’s Olympic heroics, but for the thousands of Bradley Stoke residents who turned out for the Town Council’s annual firework display on November 4th 2012, there were reminders aplenty.

As in previous years, the highly popular 15 minute display was put on by Kimbolton Fireworks, the company behind displays at the opening and closing ceremonies of the London Olympics and the starting countdown was led by Bradley Stoke’s own resident Paralympian Karen Butler, who placed sixth in her fourth Paralympics at London this year.

With no charge for entry, the crowd of over 4,000 were asked for donations to the Mayor’s Charity with bucket collections bringing in £3,667.10 on the night. A further £435 donated by traders brought the total, which will be shared by Alzheimer’s Society Bradley Stoke Sports & Social Club and Have a Heart ChildLine Appeal, to £4,102.10.

Thanking the public Town Mayor, Cllr Charlotte Walker said: “We were delighted with the turnout this year and once again the generosity of residents’ donations has been tremendous.” Adding “I’d like to thank the staff and volunteers who assisted in making the event a success and of course Karen for joining us as our guest of honour on the night”
