Bradley Stoke Bowlers Set to Return Home

BSTC - 17th September 2009

Competitive Bowls looks set to return to Bradley Stoke next season after last night's Town Council meeting paved the way for the formation of a new club. Councillors unanimously backed a proposal by Vice-Chairman Cllr Ben Walker to allow the formation of Bradley Stoke Bowls Club at the Baileys Court green which has been seldom used since the Northavon Bowling Club (NABC) were evicted in 2008 following a rent dispute started under the previous administration in 2007.

Speaking at the meeting Cllr Walker explained that the former NABC Club President would found the new club and was confident of finding 50 Members in time for the new season in 2010. The council's agreement means the club can now register with the sports governing bodies and arrange their first fixtures.

Afterwards Cllr Walker said "I'm delighted my colleagues have supported this proposal, there are still some details to work out but we're all looking forward to seeing the bowlers back on the green."

Adding his support Town Mayor Cllr Mark Forsyth said: "This is a fresh start for local bowlers and I'm looking forward to working with the new club" adding "This administration has always supported local sport and we work particularly closely with both football and cricket, there is no reason why bowls should be any different."

A working group consisting of the Council's standing committee chairs will now meet with the new club representatives to finalise the deal.
