BSTC - 27th May 2022

As people across the country plan to celebrate the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee in a couple of weeks, Bradley Stoke, one of the nicest towns in the Greater Bristol region will be joining the party in a way that reflects and celebrates multicultural modern Britain. This is a great milestone in the history of Bradley Stoke as well as the UK.

Earlier this year, Cllr Tom Aditya hoisted a new Union Jack at the Council’s Flagpole on the 6th of February to symbolically commence the 70th-anniversary celebrations of the Queen’s accession to the throne. A special greetings card and a letter paying tributes to Her Majesty were also sent on behalf of the Council. On Friday, 6th of May 2022, Cllr Tom Aditya planted trees at Brook Way Activity Centre premises as part of the Queen’s Green Canopy (QGC), which is a unique tree-planting initiative created to mark Her Majesty’s Platinum Jubilee in 2022, inviting people to “plant a tree for the jubilee”. The Council encourage the planting of trees to create a legacy in honour of the Queen’s leadership, which will in turn protect our environment and community and will also benefit our future generations.

On Monday, the 9th of May, an Older Persons Tea Party was arranged by the Mayor and the Council to pay respects to our elderly population as part of the Queen’s Jubilee celebrations. It was also a platform to create networks amongst the elderly peer groups and a gathering to recall the good sacrifices of our previous generations, the Victory in Europe Day and the International Mother’s Day, and alleviate social isolation and loneliness. The programme was well attended, and we received much positive feedback from all the participants.
