South Gloucestershire Council Trading Standards
South Gloucestershire Council Trading Standards - 23rd January 2018
Trading Standards have been made aware of two incidents of cold calling in the Kingswood area, where males have visited homes offering gutter repair and cleaning services.
These individuals did not appear to have tools with them to carry out such work. The service has concerns that approaches such as cold calling may have links to distraction burglaries and we would ask that you use your community contacts to raise awareness of this type of practice.
Trading Standards would advise residents to;
- be extra vigilant when dealing with unexpected callers, you do not know who they are or what their history may be,
- not to allow unknown or unexpected visitors into your home. If necessary, deal with them using a door chain or through a window,
- ensure front and back doors are closed and locked if your attention is elsewhere.
- If you are unhappy or feel intimidated by the visitor, shut the door and call the police on the non-emergency number 101.
Remember; Not Sure, Don’t Open The Door.
