Highways England: M4 J19-20 Winterbourne Lane Underbridge

Skanska Infrastructure Services - 28th August 2015

Following the letter in June, I’m am writing to you again to inform you of some developments to the work that Skanska, working on behalf of Highways England, is carrying out in your area.

After discovering that the Winterbourne Lane underbridge is in a worse condition than we originally anticipated, we will be carrying out works during the night and on Sundays to make sure the work is completed in a timely manner. Due to these unforeseen circumstances and despite our weekend working, we anticipate that work will finish later than previously scheduled – we are now scheduled to finish by 25th October 2015.

The current full closure of the carriageway will be removed on Tuesday, 1ST September at 6.00am. The remaining work required will be carried out overnight, Monday to Friday, between the hours of 20.00 and 06.00 under the control of three way traffic lights.

We will also be required to do some work on Sundays, under a full closure, with the previous diversion route being used.

The work that will take place on Sundays, will be Hydro-demolition. This involves a high pressure water jet being used to remove damaged concrete from the bridge, to enable concrete repairs to take place. This work will produce some noise but our environmental team have carried out tests and it is not likely going to cause too much disruption to local residents. We will regularly monitor the noise levels during the work.

We will of course continue to make every effort to ensure that the impact of our roadworks on the local community is kept to a minimum and we apologise for any further inconvenience this increase to the scheme may cause.

Please get in touch if you have any queries or comments about the works at the Highways England Customer Contact Centre on 0300 123 5000.

Yours sincerely,

Sam Landrigan
