Patchway tunnels update

Network Rail - 18th April 2019

Electrification of the railway between London Paddington and Cardiff Central is progressing well, with most of the work now completed on the English side of the Severn Tunnel. However, there is more work to do on the section through South Gloucestershire. This Easter we will be working 24/7 between Bristol Parkway station and the Severn Tunnel.

Thursday 18 - Tuesday 23 April

From 10.00pm on Thursday 18 April until 3.30am on Tuesday 23 April we will be working 24/7 between Patchway station and the Severn Tunnel; working on the open line as well as inside the Patchway tunnels, and on the new Patchway station footbridge.

What is involved?

Between Patchway and the Severn Tunnel, we'll be installing more overhead wires and the connections for electrification. Inside the Patchway tunnels we need to do more drainage work and install more wiring and fixings. At Patchway station we're lifting in the main structure of the footbridge by crane.

What to expect

Throughout the Easter weekend, we will be using compounds and access points at Patchway station, Cattybrook and Pilning. Road Rail Vehicles will be travelling along the route. Workers will park cars at Filton tip, taking minibuses to site. The area around Patchway station will be busy and rail replacement buses will be using Station Road.

Travel arrangements

From Friday 19 (Good Friday) to Monday 22 April 2019 (Easter Monday), buses will replace trains between Newport, Severn Tunnel Junction, Patchway and Bristol Parkway. The same applies on the weekend of Saturday 27 and Sunday 28 April. More information: www.nationalrail.co.uk or www.GWR.com

Patchway station car park

Patchway station car park, including the disabled parking bays, will be closed from 10.00pm on Thursday 18 April until the early hours of Tuesday 23 April, to ensure the safety of the public.
