The Three Brooks Nature Conservation Group was formed in February 2005 with the aim of conserving and enhancing the Three Brooks Local Nature Reserve for the benefit of local residents and wildlife in Bradley Stoke.
The reserve is named after the three brooks that run through it, Patchway, Hortham and Stoke Brooks, which converge into the Three Brooks lake - popular with local residents and with waterfowl. The reserve also contains three wooded areas - Savages Wood, Webb's Wood and Sherbourne's Brake - each with their own distinct character, and several areas of grassland and scrub. All of this is a vital haven for wildlife and plants in the middle of a densely populated housing estate.
If you would like to help look after your local wild spaces and learn more about the natural environment of Bradley Stoke, then why not come and join us? New members of all ages are always welcome at any of our events - see below for more details. (Emma Creasey, Secretary)
BTCV (British Trust for Conservation Volunteers) are starting up a Green Gym on the Three Brooks local nature reserve.
This group will meet once a week to carry out conservation work, with the aim of getting fit by improving the environment. Starting on 6 July 2006, the group will meet on Thursdays, meeting by the leisure centre at 10 am and finishing at 1 pm, and will be run by Jenny Darwin from BTCV. If you would like to join in, please let Jenny know in advance so she has an idea of numbers - email her at J.Darwin@btcv.org.uk or phone on 0117 929 1624 or 07740 899707.

We are keen to know what wildlife has been seen on the reserve. Perhaps you've spotted a kingfisher by the brook, or heard grasshoppers on the Tump. We'd like to know when and where you saw it. You can either pick up a recording postcard from the library, or you can fill in a template provided by the Bristol Regional Environmental Records Centre (BRERC). Click on www.brerc.org.uk and "Send us a Record" to find out more. We also have some recording forms specially produced for the reserve by BRERC. These include aerial photographs of the reserve divided up into Ordnance Survey squares, so you can pinpoint your findings exactly. These are available to download:
All records are welcome - we look forward to hearing from you.
The main aim of the group is as stated above - to conserve and enhance the Three Brooks Local Nature Reserve - but to find out how we plan to achieve this, please download our 12 point constitution here:
From time to time we will post updates of activities we have undertaken, and those we are planning for the future. These updates will be available for you to download from this page. We we would encourage you to check back regularly to ensure that you don't miss out on any future activities which may be of interest to you:
An outdoor classroom has been created in the heart of a Bradley Stoke woodland, thanks to the help of Ella, a 17-year-old Percheron Horse. Read the full story by following this link: Outdoor Classroom Created
