Orchard Harvest Day

Orchard Harvest Day

When: Sunday 8th October 2017 - 11am - 4pm

Where: Winterbourne Medieval Barn, Church Lane, BS36 1SE

Come & celebrate the Great British Orchard. Displays, Stalls, Animals, Games, Food & Drink plus a whole lot more!

Visit the wonderful medieval barn built in 1342, and celebrate the Great British Orchard. See traditional cider making demonstrations using a Victorian press - and taste the results from the Winterbourne Cider Company!

Learn about medieval falconry and watch these beautiful birds with Raptor Care's static and flying displays – you can even take a 'selfie' with a bird on the glove.

Demonstrations from 'Flaxland' - find out all about flax and linen, and how this traditional crop fits into the agricultural history of Flaxpits Lane, Winterbourne. See the different stages of flax growing, and watch breaking, scutching and hackling as the crop is processed. The crop with its beautiful blue flowers has many uses from linseed oil to "Lino" flooring.

There will be something for all the family - local crafts and rural skills, the ever-popular ferret-racing, skittles, archery, animals, apple bobbing, face-painting and lots of other children’s activities and games.

Music and dance from the Frampton Shantymen, Winterbourne Down Border Morris, and Barber Shop Singers.

Food and drink available all day from Old Sodbury Lamb, Harcombe Catering (Lorraine’s wonderful sweets and savouries), Icicle-Tricycle Ice Cream, and the Barn cafe. Bar provided by The Globe Inn from Frampton Cotterell, plus Haythorn Cider brewed at the Barn.

Assistance and well behaved dogs on a lead are welcome. Dogs remain the responsibility of the owner within the grounds of the Barn.

Adults only £3 (children under 16 are FREE).

Parking charge of £2 per vehicle in aid of The Alzheimers Society.
