Managed Motorways: Parish Bulletin Number 7 - July 2012

The Highways Agency is working to improve the M4 between junctions 19 and 20, and the M5 between junctions 15 and 17, by introducing managed motorways.
Traffic Management
The use of cones and signs to provide lane and speed restrictions within the areas we need to work.
Full closures
Throughout July we will carry out a series of closures on the M4, M5 and within the Almondsbury Interchange. Various works will be carried out whilst these closures are in place, including the removal of redundant gantries and signs, road surfacing and the installations of 7 new cross carriageway gantries.

- M4 Eastbound and Westbound through junction 20
Wednesday 4th July
- M5 Northbound 16 to 15
- M5 Southbound 14-16
Thursday 5th July
- M5 Northbound 17-15
- M5 Southbound 15-16
Monday 9th July
- M5 South to M4 East link road
- M5 South to M4 West link road
10th, 11th and 12th July
- M5 South to M4 East link road
- M5 South to M4 West link road
- M4 East to M5 North link road
- M4 East to M5 South link road
Monday 16th July
- M5 South to M4 East link road
- M5 South to M4 West link road
Wednesday 18th July
- M4 East to M5 North link road

Closures will be in effect from as early as 22:00hrs, if traffic flows are low enough, however closures of the link roads within the Almondsbury Interchange may be in effect from the earlier time of 21:00hrs.
All closures will be removed by 06:00hrs the following day.
Signed diversion routes will be in place for all of the closures. To include them all in this bulletin would have required a further 2 pages of text.

Construction Activities
Foundation piling – day time works
- Piling in the verges of the M4 motorway is nearing completion. Work at the final location is programmed to finish mid July.
- Piling in the verges of the M5 is now well under way, with a total of 7 foundations complete. Piling on the M5 is expected to continue until late September.
Gantry bases
- Once foundation piling is completed construction of the gantry bases can
commence. This work consists of the installation of steel reinforcement cages,
fitting of formwork (a temporary mould) and the pouring of concrete into the formwork. - Work to construct the gantry bases is 19% complete.
Installation of gantries
- Throughout July we will install a total of 7 new cross carriageway gantries on the M4 and within the Almondsbury Interchange.
- The gantries will be installed at night during full closures of the motorway.
Earthworks – day time works
- Earthworks to construct piling platforms in the verges of the M5 progressed
well throughout June, with a total of 12 completed. These works will continue
until mid August. - Earthworks to create new drainage channels in the verges of the M4 will continue throughout July. These works are programmed to last until September.
