Bristol Zoo Gardens - 5th July 2010
Bristol Zoo's annual summer festival is back for another jammed packed day of music, theatre, circus acts, cabaret, food, drink and fun for all ages.
Boogie for Brizzle will be held on Saturday July 17, in the Zoo's impressive 12-acre grounds, and is the only night of the year the entire zoo stays open until late.
The event celebrates and showcases Bristol's abundant home-grown talent, including some of the best performers and live music the city has to offer.
The line-up for this year includes Dreadzone, an eclectic fusion of dub and reggae mixed with elements of techno, trance, folk and rock; jazz and soul sounds from Miss Cecily; melodious vocals from Pete Josef and funky rumba from Vamos.
Throughout the day there will also be walkabout entertainers, action-packed carberat, body-popping break dance, circus performers, stilt walkers and children's actvities.
And if that's not enough, why not pay a visit to the hundreds of different animal species at home in the Zoo, including lions, gorillas, penguins, seals, monkeys and meerkats? And don't forget to take the opportunity to swing alongside the Zoo's gibbons and gorillas, on the high level ropes course, ZooRopia.
Boogie for Brizzle takes place on Saturday, July 17 from 3pm until late. The event is part of the world-wide celebrations of 2010 as the International Year of Biodiversity, and will raise valuable funds for the Zoo's new amphibian breeding sanctuary. Called the AmphiPod, the facility provides the perfect conditions to allow two frog species on the verge of extinction to breed, in an effort to help save them from extinction.
Advance tickets for Boogie for Brizzle cost £11.50 (£7.50 child) or £30.50 for a family ticket. Tickets on night cost £13.50 (£8.50 child) and £35 for a family. Discounts apply for members, concessions and groups of 10 or more.
To book tickets phone Bristol Zoo on 0117 974 7300, ask at the Zoo or book online at www.bristolzoo.org.uk.
A visit to Bristol Zoo Gardens is a trip to an amazing world of animals, all within 12 acres of beautiful gardens. Meet over 450 species of exotic, endangered and cute animals from the four corners of the globe.
Visit the primates in Monkey Jungle, stroll through the lemur garden or come face to face with the inhabitants of the impressive Seal and Penguin Coast. Some other Zoo favourites include Gorilla Island, Reptile house, Asiatic lions, Butterfly Forest, Bug World, Twilight World, and the Aquarium.
Don't forget to visit the new Explorers' Creek exhibit which has three exciting areas. The first is 'Splash', a water-play area with streams, dams and the chance to get your toes wet. Next, follow in the footsteps of jungle explorers as you enter 'Forest of Birds', before feeding nectar to colourful parrots at the 'Feed the Lorikeets' exhibit (small charge applies for nectar).
More adventurous visitors can have a go on the new aerial ropes course, ZooRopia, and swing alongside some of the Zoo's most popular animals - gibbons and gorillas - before flying down the zip wire (restrictions and charges apply).
If that's not enough why not take in one of the daily animal shows, join an expert talk, or pit yourself against the best of the animal world with the popular Zoolymipcs trail?
During the summer months, the Zoo also becomes a fantastic backdrop for music and theatre events. Don't miss the annual family festival, 'Boogie for Brizzle,' on July 17! This event features fabulous live music, street theatre, dance, kids' activities & plenty of surprises on the only night of the year the entire Zoo stays open late.
